Nature Reach (the “app”) is developed by Lý Mạnh Linh. The app helps children and parents explore nature on maps: tap an animal, plant, or place, hear its name in the language being learned, and discover something interesting. Almost everything happens on the device.
1. Data stored on your device
The app stores locally on your device:
- Discovery progress (animals, plants, or natural features / maps you have tapped)
- How often a map is opened, how often discovered content is interacted with (taps, opening a detail page, tapping to hear the name again), and on-device Find it results (to show the species your child found and their quest badges at Easy / Hard / Super hard). These are used for the parent Exploration activity page, behind the in-app parental gate
- An on-device activity log of the last 14 days: maps opened, species met for the first time, fun facts the app read aloud, quests and badges, stories, scene narrations and myths listened to the end, and Rare Moments viewed. It powers the “Past 7 days” and “Ask them tonight” parts of the Exploration activity page; entries older than 14 days are deleted automatically and nothing is sent anywhere
- Language preferences (native language and learning language)
- Light UI preferences (for example list vs world-hub browse mode)
- Downloaded map media packs (if any) in the app’s storage
We do not require an account and do not operate a server that stores a child’s or parent’s personal profile.
2. Data sent over the network
- Map pack downloads: Only the Savanna map (day and night) comes with the app, ready to play offline from the first launch. Pond and Rainforest are free, but their content (images, voice-over, sounds and videos) is downloaded from cloud storage (Cloudflare R2 / CDN). After the first launch, the app automatically downloads content for these two maps and some other small free packs in the background over Wi-Fi; story covers and quest badge images can also download in the background over mobile data. Pond and Rainforest can also download when a child opens the map. Paid map content downloads after the map is unlocked. That traffic is the app’s public educational content. It does not include a child’s name, email, or personal journal.
- Anonymous usage counts (from version 1.6.6): Nature Reach counts how often its parts are used only after a parent agrees in the app, such as opening maps, finishing stories, playing quizzes or viewing purchase offers. On an active app day, the packet also includes one broad collected-card progress group: 0, 1–9, 10–29, 30–59, or 60+ cards. The app does not send a card list or an exact card count. Counts are added up on the device by day and sent as one daily aggregate packet to our server over HTTPS; offline packets may be sent on a later day. A packet includes the day, app version, platform, two selected languages and a broad app-use age group, without names, photos, device identifiers, transaction identifiers or a child's individual profile. We do not store IP addresses in the counter. Cloudflare, our infrastructure provider, processes IP addresses to deliver the data and through standard network logs. We use only aggregate totals to understand which parts children use and improve the app's content and functioning, without personal profiles or advertising use. Counts are retained for up to 400 days in active tables, with the boundary day kept until the next cleanup; infrastructure recovery copies may retain them for up to 30 additional days. Parents can change “Send anonymous counts” in Settings after the parental gate. Declining or turning it off deletes unsent counts and stops new counting.
- Support: If you email support, the message and the email address you use reach the developer inbox. Only when you contact us.
The app currently does not use tracking ads, does not use third-party product analytics, and does not sell data.
3. Speech / TTS
Names of animals, plants, natural features, and some short lines may play from pre-recorded voice in the app or from on-device system text-to-speech. We do not run our own speech-recognition servers; the app does not record a child to upload audio to our servers.
4. Device permissions
Nature Reach does not require camera, microphone, photo library, location, or contacts for core features.
5. Children
The app is directed at children (App Store Kids band 6–8; Google Play target ages 6–8 and 9–12, Families Policy) together with parents. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. Learning progress stays on the device. In-app purchases, restore purchases, the parent Exploration activity and Downloaded maps screens, and opening external pages (privacy / terms / support) all go through an in-app parental gate (a short math question).
6. In-app purchases
Additional-map unlocks (one-time purchases) are processed by the platform’s in-app purchase system. We do not receive your payment card details. Unlock status is stored on the device after the store confirms the transaction; restore via Settings → Restore purchases with the same store account.
Purchase check when downloading paid content: To download the media of a purchased map or Premium content, the app sends the store-issued purchase record (Apple's signed transaction, or the Google Play purchase token) to our server running on Cloudflare. The server checks Apple's signature or asks Google whether the purchase is still valid, then issues a short-lived download link. We do not store this record. It contains no name, email or card details, and is not used for advertising or analytics.
7. Marketing website (naturereach.app)
The public site at naturereach.app is for parents, not the children’s app. It uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure visits and which pages were opened (no cookies, no personal profile). Store-badge taps go through short pages on the same site (/go/apple and /go/play) so we can count App Store and Google Play interest in aggregate. We do not run advertising pixels or third-party marketing trackers on that site. This is separate from the app, which still does not use third-party product analytics.
